God, the Practical Jokester

The chariots of Egypt were the monsters under Israel’s bed.  Ten times in Exodus 14 those chariots are mentioned. They represent power, control, fear, tyranny.  Scary things, wicked things;  coming straight at them.  And then God, King of all good humor and practical jokes, breaks in.  He knows just when to deliver the punch line.  From Ex.14:24,25:

“Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that the LORD looked down upon the army of the Egyptians…and He took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty.” (Emphasis mine).

LOL! Isn’t that a great picture? Imagine the replay of Superbowl Sunday in heaven:  Israel vs. Chariots.  Ps. 37:13 says the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.

In the most distressing times of my life, the Lord breaks in with humor.  He knows I need to hear a voice distinctly different from the silent scream issuing from me.  Besides, He wrote my biography and knows my “chariots” get edited in the end.

Jeremiah 51:21 “With you I will shatter armies, destroying the..chariot and charioteer.

Name the scary chariots/charioteers in your life.  Is God able to dismantle their wheels?
