“Lord, this is your idiot servant speaking. I don’t think I hear Your voice. I thought I did. But now I’m thinking I don’t and…have I ever? I know you are 100% reliable, but I’m 100% idiot, so why would you even bother? Maybe You DID want me to become a nun after all, but then who would have taken care of John and the kids?”
This was last week’s prayer, after what I thought was an open door, slammed shut.
Enter, John a.k.a. The Voice of Reason:
“Laura, I believe we did hear the Lord. I also believe in the ‘sanctified carrot.’
Sometimes the Lord puts a carrot before us to get us moving in a certain direction, and then, changes the direction. He knows we wouldn’t budge if that juicy carrot wasn’t offered. Once we’re In the open field and the gate closes behind us, He can direct us more easily into His will.”
“But I even thought he gave me a Bible verse as confirmation.”
“Well— He knows you look to His word for direction. It got you moving, right? Let’s just keep seeking Him, and trust that He will show us the next step.”
It still looks like the Red Sea comin’ up, and for sure those crazy Philistines are clattering in my head, but I’m feeling a little less tweaked, and trusting the Lord to guide. I have His word on that.
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
She turned to leave and saw someone standing there. It was Jesus, but she didn’t recognize him. John 20:14
